Tips:

  • Put the harder tasks early (i.e. presentation and controlled practice).
  • Provide a variety of different activities.
  • Activities should be snappy and fun.
  • Always have an emergency activity up your sleeve in case you have extra time.
  • Highlight which activity you will cut out if you run out of time.
  • Try to get them off their seats, and moving around.
  • Have a laugh.
  • Start by asking them what they learned last class.
  • Never give out homework at the last minute in a rush. Hand it out about 10 minutes before the end, and explain what you want them to do.
  • End by asking them what they’ve learned today.
  • Last task should be relatively easy and practice the new target language. They should leave feeling happy that they have achieved something.
  • The last two link the lessons. This linking will help aid memory and demonstrates structure. All of which give the student confidence in their teacher.
