Help on 50 hours course Unit 3 Introduction to Grammar
by Helena Powell - Friday, 14 January 2011, 09:27 AM

Hi All

I have completed the 30 hour Grammar course, however now I am doing the 50 hour, I for some reason can not get the answers right to the following.

I Understand that an Auxillary Verb is a support verb and can be used as a main verb and these are do, have and be however I am completely stuck and prob have attempted this question 20 times.

Does he TAKE sugar?: Choose...auxiliarymain

DOES he take sugar?: Choose...auxiliarymain

I HAVE been to the other side.: Choose...auxiliarymain

I have DONE a lot of work today.: Choose...auxiliarymain

She has BEEN working hard all day.: Choose...auxiliarymain

I HAD a great time yesterday.: Choose...auxiliarymain

I DID everything I could to win.: Choose...auxiliarymain

I AM doing everything I can to win.:

Choose...auxiliarymain

Any help would be more than welcome

Thanks

Gosh I'd love to be able to help but I've only just finished the verb review on the 30hour course and I've found it a killer! I'll leave Unit 3 to another day, methinks:)

I hope you get some help soon:)

Hello Helena, assuming the question refers to the verb in capitals, this is my view on the matter. the main verb determines the action/state where the auxiliary is used to form the tense or a question (#1) See below. Trust it is of help (and hope I am right! smile) All the best, Alain Le Goff
DOES he take sugar?: Choose... auxiliary main

I HAVE been to the other side.: the main verb is BE Have is auxiliary to form the Present Perfect Choose... auxiliary main

I have DONE a lot of work today.: the main verb is DO (to do work) and as the action is in the past but not at a very specific moment and "today" is not finished, use the Present Perfect i.e auxiliary + the main verb Past Participle Choose... auxiliary main

She has BEEN working hard all day.: Choose... auxiliary main

I HAD a great time yesterday.: Choose... auxiliary main

I DID everything I could to win.: Choose... auxiliary main

I AM doing everything I can to win.:

Choose... auxiliary main
